An excellent show piece for an advanced flute player with a good technique. The great flautist Taffanel performed it in 1864*.
This fantasia by Robert S. Pratten (famous English flute player and designer of the Pratten flute) is a Theme and variations based on a melody from an opera by Niedermeyer about the life of Mary, Queen of Scots.
Completed in 1849, the fantasia is in two parts. It has a charmingly worked out theme in D major followed by another theme with four variations.
This edition is based on the original publication from the private collection of Roz Trubger.
